A practical timetable balances Mathematics, GAT, revision and physical fitness.
| Time | Activity |
| 6:00–6:45 AM | Running, exercise or sports |
| 7:00–8:00 AM | Mathematics concepts |
| 4:00–5:00 PM | Mathematics practice |
| 5:15–6:00 PM | English grammar and vocabulary |
| 6:15–7:15 PM | Science, History or Geography |
| 7:30–8:00 PM | Current affairs |
| 8:00–8:30 PM | Revision and error analysis |
Adjust these timings according to school, college or other commitments. Consistent, focused study is more important than following a rigid timetable.
Mathematics is worth 300 marks – problem solving is necessary. Start with basic questions and move on to more difficult ones.
Follow these steps:
Don’t be able to remember shortcuts without comprehending what they do. You can answer unknown questions more confidently with strong fundamentals.
GAT carries 600 marks and must be given regular preparation.
English: Practise grammar, vocabulary, synonyms, antonyms, sentence improvement and comprehension daily.
Science: Reinforce the concepts of Physics, Chemistry and General Science at school.
History and Geography: Take brief notes; use timelines; revise and utilize maps.
Current Affairs: Keep abreast of the important news about the country, defence, science and technology, sports and important appointments happening in the world.
GAT can be an effective component of a balanced approach to overall preparation, and can be used to avoid last minute stress.
You can get a good idea of the exam paper format and practice questions from previous year papers. Download papers available at the official website of UPSC previous papers page.
At the end of each test, note down any errors from incorrect concepts, miscalculations, time management or guesswork. Make necessary changes to the text before retesting.
Increase your practice time to full length, as appropriate, in the last two months. Don’t just look at your overall score, monitor your accuracy, time and frequent mistakes.
Written examination is only one of the steps for selection in NDA. Candidates are also required to go through the SSB process and have to fulfill medical conditions.
Experience communication, logical thinking, working cooperatively, self-evaluation and responsible decision making in daily activities. Engage with sports, share opinions effectively and keep up to date on key national and international issues.
It is not about memorising the perfect answer when preparing for SSB. It is more than just about acquiring ethical characteristics related to good teamwork and leadership.
Six months is a realistic time frame for cracking NDA if one has the right basics, revision and constant practice. Learn Mathematics and GAT simultaneously, understand the errors made and start cultivating SSB relevant skills at an early stage.
